This streamlined species is adept at cutting through the waters. Unfortunately for the fish, its aerodynamic form has invited some novel uses over the years.

When dried, the long nose of this predator hardens and shrinks to a sharp point. Scholars have traced the origins of the popular pastime “darts” to a rather more rudimentary game─one which saw contestants hurling the desiccated carcasses of these fish like javelins.
